No totals in balance sheet report

[Daalmation]

I am using GnuCash for the first time. I entered opening balances and all looks fine in the Account Name window but totals and sub totals for assets, liabilities and equity all show a zero balance when I open the Balance Sheet report. Same thing happens with other reports I have tried. I must be missing something obvious. Can someone help?
