Getting the "Num" column width to persist between sessions?

Is there any way to get the width of the "Num" column in an account
register to persist  between sessions?

My bank uses 6-digit cheque numbers and GnuCash always comes up with a
Num column that only shows the first five.  I know how to change
column widths in a session, but every time I run GnuCash it comes up
with the defaults again.
