Enabling database backend

Hasmet,

first of all, please be aware that 2.3.3 is an *unstable* release. It is being released to allow people to test 1) the db backend and 2) the new html report engine. The db format *is* going to change before it is finalized as 2.4.

That being said, 2.3.3 should have what you need in order to connect to a database. There have been some issues reported about installing directly over an existing 2.2.X installation. If you want to try it, try uninstalling all gnucash versions, then reinstall 2.3.3.

The "File | Save As" dialog box has the drop down list, the "Database Connection" group and another group (can't remember the name off-hand) with a file selection section. The "Database Connection" group is meant to be disabled unless "mysql" or "pgsql" is selected in the drop down list.

Can you log the crash in bugzilla.gnome.org and provide a stack trace?

Phil

Subject: Enabling database backend

I downloaded 2.3.3 Windows installer a few days ago and installed it on top of 2.2.8 (that is, without uninstalling the latest stable release first). When I attempt to convert the XML file to a database by using the "File | Save As..." menu item, the drop down list box on the upper left hand side shows only xml as an option and the "Database Connection" group is disabled.

I followed the instructions in a previous post to download and install MySql 5.1 and create a database called 'gnucash', but still the same. I installed postgresql 8.4 and created something similar, but no luck. What am I seem to be missing?

By the way, if "Name" is blank when the XML option is selected, and user presses "Save As", the application crashes.

Thanks,

--Hasmet
