saving a gnucash data file

Hi John,

This is a total guess, based on some things I have seen on the list recently.

I think that you are using one of the Gnucash beta test releases in the 2.3.x 
series.  The data storage system has changed in 2.3.x (leading to the 2.4.x 
stable series), and now uses a SQL database rather than the old XML data 
file.

The SQL database auto-saves every transaction as you enter it, and the 
File->Save is thus not available, as it doesn't make sense.

I _believe_ there is an option in the file->save as dialogue to specify an XML  
filestore.  Once you have created and are using the XML version, File->Save 
will be re-enabled.   

I'm sure that if I'm wrong, one of the Devs will chime in here...
