What version of gnucash? If it is one of the 2.3.X series, be aware that these are *unstable* versions that have been released for testing. The reason that File-Save is disabled is because they use a new database backend and changes are automatically saved when they are made.
If you want to just test gnucash with this backend, fine. If you want to use it for real work, use the stable 2.2.9 release.

Subject: saving a gnucash data file
Hi,
Gnucash is installed on my Windows Vista operating Dell laptop and I am in the process of setting up my accounts and preferences. My problem is that the File-Save menu item is greyed out so I can't save. The data file saves when I quit (the changes I make during a session are retained) and I have disabled the auto-save function. I want to be able to save during a session so how do I un-grey the menu command please?
Thanks, John Spira
