OK just tried that but the result is a disaster.
I downloaded slib-3b1-1.fc9.noarch.rpm (Fedora Core 9 rpm from
rpmfind.net) and now GnuCash doesn't even start up anymore:
~$ gnucash
ERROR: In procedure open-file:
ERROR: No such file or directory: "/usr/share/guile/site/slib/mklibcat"

The splash screen flashes and then immediately the above error message
appears on the terminal.

The other suggestion by Andrew to uninstall as much as possible and
reinstall it is not a viable option for me. I'm too afraid of breaking
something else and this is my work computer. Which primarily just has to
work.

I re-installed the slib from Mandriva (slib-3a4-3mdv2009.1.noarch.rpm)
and now GnuCash works again as before. Including crashing when trying to
save a custom report.
