I don't know about the SQL report benchmarks, but I understand that the 2.3 branch of Gnucash is sporting several substantial changes to the reports subsystem that are supposed to help with many of the most common complaints regarding reports. I don't know for sure because I haven't tempted fate by trying to install the unstable version.
