I've just installed FreeBSD 7.1 on two machines -- a Thinkpad G41 and a very
fast Lenovo Thinkstation. In both cases I built Gnucash 2.2.7 from source
using the ports system. While both of my systems, particularly the
workstation, are probably quite a bit faster than your laptop, on both
systems, the Gnucash startup time is very similar to that on Linux running
on the same hardware and not at all obnoxious (much less than 2 minutes)
even though my Gnucash file is quite large (~2.2 Mb). So I'm not seeing any
FreeBSD-specific slowness with Gnucash at all.
