Migrating to GNUCash from MS Money

My quick followup (also having done similar to yourself, moving from Money to GNUCash, although I did it for slightly different reasons around the end of last year).

For item 1, this has been submitted as a feature request, I had the same issue as you, and this is in Bugzilla as 420342
For item 3, there are instructions out there for how to change the necessary file to make it work at this page

http://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-user/2009-May/029905.html

Essentially you edit the Quote.pm file, remove all the lines that start with a -, and add in all the lines that start with a + (don't actually include the + or -) this seems to have worked for everyone who has done it.

I've not used the auto-banking stuff, I download files from my Bank (prefer to have the source so I can reconstruct if necessary) so can't help on that one.

Subject: Migrating to GNUCash from MS Money

Hello,

I have been using the MS Money for the past 12 years. I have always "Not" liked the category based system and always wanted a double entry system. But never did as I did not want to lose the history.

Now that Microsoft has announced the retirement of the product it almost forces me. And GnuCash is a much better replacement.

I have migrated all my accounts into GnuCash using qif files. I have been using it for the past month. I really like what I see so far. It is a great product and I take this opportunity to commend the developers. You are doing a great job.

I also have a few points of pain that was easier in MS Money. I know I should not look for another MS Money in GNU Cash. But some of these would make my life easy :
1. The default filter for every register excludes reconciled transactions.
It would be nice to see a default account register filter for all
accounts. This could be further limited by filter for each register.
And if the filters are saved as preference even if register is closed
it would be much more convenient.

2. When I run reports, it would be nice to see the totals by funds and
exclude account as an option. For example, I have a 401K, where I
track the employer and employee portions separately. The funds
are same and when I compare with the provider report, I have to
tally at the total. i.e run a report by fund (both advanced and
portfolio) by fund and not by account. IN GnuCash I have 2
accounts for each fund, 1 under employee and one under employer.
The two accounts show up in different lines. So instead of 5 funds
   I see 10 funds.

3. When I do a "Get quotes" the amounts for currencies are not getting
updated. I get the error "Unable to retrieve quotes for these items...
Continue using only good quotes" for curency exchange rates. The
    stock/funds are good.

4. Still having problems downloading bank statements and credit card
statements. Any pointers to the steps would be appreciated. I would
like to try it a little more before posing any questions.

Thank you for help.
