Resizing the Balance Column for Mutual Funds

Hello again. Last time I asked, I was the only one with this problem...

... but if someone comes across this in the future, I wanted to share
my workaround. Maybe it will be useful to someone.

Specifically, my problem is that all Mutual Fund accounts have Balance
columns that are too small. Normally I would employ the standard
technique of dragging the right side bar of the column header to the
right, but there is no right-side bar. Balance is flush against the
vertical scrollbar. I resized the window and used the horizontal
scroll to make sure I wasn't just missing it. Nope. Only Mutual
Funds have this problem. I use Mac OS X 10.5.7 and Gnucash 2.2.9, and
I also saw it in 2.2.8.

At first I tried a suggestion to convert my Mutual Funds to another
account type (like Asset), resize Balance, and then switch back to
Mutual Funds. That worked for a time, but I lost some precision in
the balances, I believe because I had to choose a different currency
(not a FUND) for the account. Not enough to bother me so that was OK.
But then this stopped working for some reason I haven't been able to
identify. Now the trick I'm using is to modify my GConf settings.
Specifically I changed the value in
~/.gconf/apps/gnucash/window/pages/register for the setting
"balance_width". This made the balance field in all of my accounts
larger. I am now a happy camper.

Joel :)
