gnucash not starting

I do not know what the trace means, but I presume you installed GnuCash in a
previous version of Ubuntu using a backport or unofficial repository OR by
compiling it yourself, and upgraded to Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 without
recompiling or switching repositories. You have to use the GnuCash compiled
for your current release.

If you want to run GnuCash 2.2.9, I suggest you should remove your custom
package and install Ubuntu's official one -- no compiling will be required,
because Ubuntu has compiled it already. (You may have to activate the
Universe repository in the Software Sources tool before you can see it. )

If you are running a "bleeding edge" 2.3.x version of GnuCash you must
compile it under Karmic 9.10.
