Failure to balance with multiple currencies

This has been discussed on this list before, most recently in the 
thread starting with 
<https://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-user/2009-September/031546.html>. 
I'm on vacation now, but when I get back I plan to produce another 
version of the patches mentioned in that thread which hopefully will be 
applied to the official version of GnuCash.
