Check Printing

Using Kubuntu Jaunty Jackalope and gnucash 2.2.6

Do not know if this is the latest, but maybe this still applies.

My old check printing template didn't get applied or saved or whatever
across updates and had to use the custom format option in check
printing. I like it. It is very easy to use.

Having the following problem:

If I print the custom format directly as when I am testing on blank
paper, it prints fine. As soon as I save the format and try to print
under the saved format, everything gets shifted to the right off the
page. Tried this many times and ended up with a lot of copies of the
same format - hint - allow the user to delete saved formats - not
everybody is going to guess where to find the formats and delete the
format files.

Well I found the format files. Here is the saved format that I finally
got to work:

[Top]
Guid=47ac55da5f9607d5513e8d034c364edc
Title=VersaCheck 3001 Classic
Show_Grid=false
Show_Boxes=false
Rotation=0
Translation=0.41399999999999;0;

[Check Items]
Type_1=PAYEE
Coords_1=62.360999999999997;68.030000000000001;
Type_2=DATE
Coords_2=354.32499999999999;53.856999999999999;
Type_3=AMOUNT_WORDS
Coords_3=8.5039999999999996;85.037999999999997;
Type_4=AMOUNT_NUMBER
Coords_4=334.483;68.030000000000001;
Type_5=NOTES
Coords_5=42.518999999999998;155.90299999999999;

Note the translation. It was originally

Translation=181.41399999999999;0;

The units I used are:

payee: 22.000,24.000
Date: 125.000,19.000
Amount (words): 3.000,30.000
Amount (numbers): 118.000,24.000
Notes: 15.000,55.000
Translation: 64.000,0.000
Rotation: 0.000
Units: millimeters

Either the "Translation" thing isn't what I think it is, or something
else is going on that I have no clue to. There was no explanation of
"Translation" in the help, so I guessed that I could just measure the
distances on the check blank and apply "Translation" to shift everything
to the right past the check stub - The VersaCheck 3001 is 3 checks/page
with check stubs on the left side of the page.

I assume the units in the format file got converted from mm to something
else.

Should I have left "Translation" as 0.000,0.000 ??

A separate question: normally I print single checks and not batches, so
the above works fine for me. Print a check and tear of the check and
stub leaving 1 or 2 more checks on the page. Sometimes I want to print 2
or 3 checks and it would be nice if I could do so without having to do
single checks. Just select 2 or 3 checks and have them printed on the
check blank in the printer. This would entail specifying the skip
distance between pages.

Could this be an option in the future?

I notice that you are still using the Financial Calculator s/w I
submitted some years back. Hope it is sufficient for what people need. I
was planning on adding a sanity check on the numbers that could be
called before making any calculations, but life got in the way and I
have been sidetracked on other things for some years.

I'm still using gnucash and loving it.

Thanks,
Terry
