New mortgage setup confusion

Ah, I think you saw the GnuCash Tutorial and Concepts Guide section 7.4 House Mortgage (How-To), which points to section 7.2 Setting Up Accounts, which says to click Actions -> New Account Hierarchy.

The documentation is unclear and somewhat outdated. I’ll come back to that. First, to solve your issue: you need to stay with the GnuCash file you’ve already created and started using, then manually create the accounts relevant to your mortgage. Exactly what accounts you create is upto you, but let’s say you create the ones shown in the first screenshot of section 7.4, to easily follow along with the documentation. You can create accounts with the ‘New’ toolbar button (you can see it in the screenshot).

Now, why the documentation is confusing: I’ve created a new bug in GnuCash’s bug database–check it out.[1] I’ll work on a fix for it.
