New Problem: Gnucash Startup Suddenly Very Slow on File Load

I've been using Gnucash for several years now. I am using the OS X 2.2.9-4 version, and all of a sudden, Gnucash is taking 2 minutes to load my file. Previously, it only took 20-30 seconds. When I start up now, all the system stuff goes through quickly, but then it takes all sorts of time to read the file. I do not have any reports opening on start up, and I have tried Check and Repair All, with no change. 

Can anyone offer suggestions on how I might figure out what changed to create this problem?
