Can't get gnucash to start on Windows

Thanks for your suggestion about checking my Windoze firewall, Charlie, but no luck.  GnuCash was already in the list of the firewall's exceptions.  I also disabled the firewall entirely and tried again, but same result - splash screen for maybe a second or so, some other window starts to open but closes too soon to see anything other than the location and approximate size of the window (it's a bit smaller than the splash).

Hey, I've tried repeatedly opening gnucash, and a couple of times I've been able to get a very brief glimpse of the window's title - I think it's a "tip of the day" window.
