Probably depends what country you are resident in and how the retirement account/contributions are handled.

For the US (where I live) I have a 401k Cash account under Assets, and I move money from my pay-check into the 401k Cash account, from there I use that money to buy stocks/mutual funds/whatevers that are available to me in my 401k plan.

Overall I'd say it's something similar anywhere, just depends how much knowledge/control you have over the retirement accounts, as to how much you can do with it once you move it into the equivalent of the 401k Cash account.
