Under the View menu there's a radio button selection.  unless you're
using the GL, in which case you cannot.

Eh?  Are you using the GL?  Try View -> Date?   I never use the GL.
Account registers always go back to the beginning of time, unless you
specifically limit the number of transactions in your preferences.
The default is unlimited.
