   What kind of protection are you applying to all your other data on 
the computer? We can begin with asking what operating system you use. 
Then we can ask further questions about the level of protection you want 
to have. Instead of trying to password protect the data of each 
application separately (and we pros could probably get around that 
rather easily) you should be looking at global solutions if privacy is 
an issue for you.

   Note that against the pros, only strong encryption stands much of a 
chance. And because would be cumbersome, you are unlikely to be willing 
to use strong enough keys (even a strong "system" is compromised by weak 
keys/key security procedures).
