Wrong balance for period (gnucash 2.2.9.4 on OS X)

Brendan,

   If it's an asset account then you are misusing "period". Accounts of 
type asset, liability, and equity are standing accounts. A Balance Sheet 
is normally "as of a certain date" and not "for some date interval".

   When used with a date interval what you are seeing are the net 
changes to these accounts during that time interval. That's NOT the same 
thing as the overall balance. Perhaps useful information but different 
information.
