GC Freezing

I ran GC 2.2.9 (built on r17949M 2009 02-23) on my netbook (Windows XP) 
when away from home (much of the time) and on my desktop (also Windows) 
when home, using the same data file, for about six months with no 
problem. Recently it started freezing up when running on the netbook, 
especially around scheduled transactions (the only GC function that will 
then work is closing it and I have no other computer problems). Thinking 
the data file may have gotten corrupted I tried creating a NEW file, but 
the same thing happened. Then I replaced the netbook data file with the 
one on the desktop. Same problem, so I uninstalled the entire GC program 
and downloaded and reinstalled it. SAME PROBLEM, so it looks like the 
problem MUST be with GC, which must be leaving some kind of remnants on 
the computer that stay there through a reinstall.

GC on the HP Slimline desktop continues to work fine. I return to 
Ecuador next week and if I cannot solve this problem I will have to take 
my desktop computer with me as I will be gone for several months and 
need to keep my records straight. This would be a serious nuisance! What 
should I do?
