Gnucash opening with no transactions visible

My Gnucash has recently started opening without any transactions visible on
any of the account tabs I have left available.  The way round it seems to be
to hit the Blank transaction button which then refreshes the page, but I
have to do this on evey account tab.  This did not used to be the behaviour. 
Any ideas why this may be happening?  I am on a laptop running w7.
