Error when trying to open file on Windows version

Colin,

Thanks very much for your answer. My original data file was created and
is maintained on a Linux machine using version 1.8.12 of gnucash (I know
that is VERY old). I have tried loading this data file on a Windows
machine and a Linux machine, both running version 2.2.9 of gnucash and
received the same error. I also suspect a version incompatibility.
However, I had read several entries on the internet (sites I don't
remember now) that gnucash data files should be compatible through most
all versions. This lead me to believe it was a windows/linux
compatibility problem. However, as I stated above, I tried it on a
Linux machine running 2.2.9 and received the exact same error. I now am
suspicious of something in the data file similar to what is reported in
bug 493734. They mention there might be a solution in 2.3 versions.

Besides the mobile solution I described below, I would like to upgrade
my linux and gnucash to a recent version but right now it appears that I
will have a problem no matter what the os.

I did try copying this file several times and verified by the file size
that the file was copied correctly.

Thanks again for taking the time to answer me. I will have to figure
out some way to transfer balances over to my new version of gnucash when
I upgrade my home pc for good, and, in the meantime for go using the
data file on my laptop for road trips.

Regards,

David Martz
