My path where I store my data file is: C:\Documents and Settings\doc_holder\Gnucash. I stored it here instead of under my documents because I do a usb backup each time is make changes and plus I didn't want my Gnucash backed up to Spideroak.
After re-installing version 2.4.7, rebooting, running GC and opening a backup, doing save as (still no save option; greyed out), then trying to open the new file name from my hd, I get the parsing error. I had three trace files:
1st trace:* 10:50:39 WARN <qof.engine> [guid_init()] only got 1100 bytes.
The identifiers might not be very random.
* 10:50:51 WARN <gnc.app-utils> Could not spawn perl: Failed to execute child process (No such file or
directory)
2nd trace: * 10:57:44 WARN <qof.engine> [guid_init()] only got 1100 bytes.
The identifiers might not be very random.
* 10:57:52 WARN <gnc.app-utils> Could not spawn perl: Failed to execute child process (No such file or directory)
3rd trace file: * 11:00:14 WARN <qof.engine> [guid_init()] only got 1100 bytes.
The identifiers might not be very random.
* 11:00:22 WARN <gnc.app-utils> Could not spawn perl: Failed to execute child process (No such file or directory)
* 11:00:22 CRIT <gnc.io> [dom_tree_handlers_all_gotten_p()] Not defined and it should be: trn:date-posted
* 11:00:22 CRIT <gnc.io> [dom_tree_generic_parse()] didn't find all of the expected tags in the input
* 11:00:25 WARN <gnc.backend> [gnc_xml_be_load_from_file()] Syntax error in Xml File
C:\Documents and Settings\doc_holder\Gnucash\harold_jean.gnucash
* 11:00:47 CRIT <gnc.io> [dom_tree_handlers_all_gotten_p()] Not defined and it should be: trn:date-posted
* 11:00:47 CRIT <gnc.io> [dom_tree_generic_parse()] didn't find all of the expected tags in the input
* 11:00:49 WARN <gnc.backend> [gnc_xml_be_load_from_file()] Syntax error in Xml File C:\Documents and Settings\doc_holder\Gnucash\harold_jean.gnucash
Hope this helps,
Harold

I'm afraid this trace file doesn't give any details of the parse error you
mentioned in your first mail.
You proposal is best: remove all the current trace files and start again.
I would be interested in two trace files:
1. the first one right after you have opened a backup file, ran save as and
closed gnucash again
2. the second one after you try to open the new file and get the error
message.
Can you also tell me in which directory (full path) you are storing your data
file ?
Geert
