I'm afraid actually embedding the image in the transaction will have to wait for a major rewrite of the register (which we're going to have to do for Gtk3, but it isn't likely to make it into the 2.6 release).
What you could do now is use the memo field for a split to hold a URI for the image file. You'd be able to copy that and paste it into your favorite web browser to view the image... as long as you don't move the file.
