QIF Import Memo Retention

I'm building up a GnuCash instance from a prior MS Money file, so I
generally have a number of QIF files that I'm sequentially importing into
GnuCash.

However, the QIF Importer seems to remove any memo fields that I have
included where there is not a split present.  Or said in reverse, only in
cases where I have splits defined are the split memo fields retained.

Is there a way to have the memo field retained on the non-split
transactions?
