I'm just starting with gnucash and I'm having trouble finding my way
around (the basics).
Based on the tutorial:
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=2&sqi=2&ved=0CB4QFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.gnucash.org%2Fdocs%2Fv1.8%2FC%2Fgnucash-guide.pdf&rct=j&q=gnucash%20personal%20account%20tutorial&ei=4td0TfmjDoGC8gaf99z5Dg&usg=AFQjCNGHa0x3nZTnq8FLL03wUuXMbahA5Q&sig2=gWiZEWtjjb_50P_5aZzOnA&cad=rja

I'm trying to set up the example split transaction:
"To add a paycheck transaction from the Assets:Checking account
register window, click on a new
transaction line, and click on Split. First enter the description of
this transaction on the first line (eg:
"Employers R Us"). In the "split" line below this, the the gross total
of your paycheck (eg: $1000) as a
withdrawal transfer from Income:Salary. Now, individually insert
deposits to Asset:Checking (eg: $670),
Expenses:Taxes:Federal (eg: $180), Expenses:Taxes:Medicare (eg: $90),
and Expenses:Taxes:Social
Security (eg: $60)."

The problem is with the line:
"Now, individually insert deposits to Asset:Checking (eg: $670),
Expenses:Taxes:Federal (eg: $180), Expenses:Taxes:Medicare (eg: $90),
and Expenses:Taxes:Social
Security (eg: $60)."
I tried all sorts of things but nothing worked correctly. The first
two lines are ok but not the third.

I realize this probably something obvious that I'm just overlooking.

thanks,
M.
