Too many files!

@Colin: Yes, that is the setting I changed. You're assuming that I'm not saving it manually. What I'm doing is giving myself the control to save when I want, where I want. I save every 10 minutes or so, but I "Save as" and over write the original file. After 60 minutes, I'll have a back up, but chances are I'll be done before then and will simply copy the original file to my back up hard drive. I really just don't need GnuCash to make back up files for me, and CERTAINLY not every 5 minutes. For my needs that is excessive.
