GC 2.4.11 fails to launch (Windows XP)

Now I tried some more versions. Version 2.4.8 is the newest release that
launches as expected (without errors), so I think I will try that one first.
Perhaps some experienced users (or developers) know the differences between
2.4.8 and 2.4.9, .10, and .11 that cause my problem.
