Program is hanging up

Darn puzzling...
1. I tried running that Gtk2_prefs style program again, and tried 10 of the
various styles offered, and still experienced the same hang up problem,
although it evidenced itself slightly different with each style.
2. So I went back to my original installation. I (a) uninstalled the
GnuCash program using its own uninstall file; (b) I manually deleted the
main GnuCash directory, and also deleted all of the files that were created
under my user directory; (c) I also deleted my data files on that original
user installation; (d) I ran 3 different registry clean up programs to make
sure any registry entries weren't lying around; (e) I manually ran regedit
and searched for any gnc* or gt* etc registry listings; (f) I rebooted the
computer; (g) I reinstalled GnuCash; (h) created a new set of accounts. And
it still hangs. My definition of "hangs"... if I click on the expenses top
category it opens up the list, but if i click it again, it does nothing,
etc.
3. The program I installed on a different user where I never ran Gtk2_prefs,
still works just fine.
Obviously (?) something is still left that the original user is picking up.
And note... when I first installed the program there many days ago, it
worked fine...
Sorta out of ideas... :(
