Security/ Currency Type: only one option

I am trying to add some stocks in a new account. When I go add a new
account, select security/ currency, I am taken to the Select Currency
window. Here, I only have type as Currency. If I change type to NASDAQ
(by manually editing the field), the currency field changes to IBM
automatically and if I click OK, it all changes back to currency
again.

I have already added NASDAQ: IBM in Tools - Security Editor and can
get online quotes from Tools - Price editor - get quotes.

GnuCash version 2.4.11 on OS X Mountain Lion.
