Can GNUCash automatically select the appropriate category?

I note that Kent Dahl-2 commented (Jul 13, 2008) that GnuCash can remember
the mapping of "accounts" which - correct me if I'm wrong - is sometimes
used interchangeably with "categories".

When I import a QFX there is no option to specify the "category" (e.g. Fuel,
Service charge, Interest) of each transaction. This is exactly what I
recall Quicken/MSN Money automatically doing when importing online
transactions.
