Running GC from thumb drive.

I've used Gnucash Portable in the past. It's Windows only, I don't know what's available for Linux or Mac OSX.

Some while back someone mentioned running GC from a thumbdrive. I understood this to mean: running it on a machine without installing but by executing from the thumbdrive. Was my understanding correct? How do you do it?
