Transaction "Transparency"

I've been using Gnucash for a year or so for my personal finances but now I'm
trying to use it for a Boy Scout Troop. What I'm hoping a guru can help
with me with is finding the ability to track funds through individual scouts
while not having to enter multiple transactions for the same money. Here's
a subset of the account setup:

Assets
      Checking Account ( we only have this 1 account )
           Troop Account ( funds the troop can spend )
           Scout Accounts ( accounts for each scout )
                 Boy 1
                 Boy 2
                 ....
                 Boy n

Income
     Dues & Registration
     Camp Fees
     ...

Expenses
     Registration
     Books
     Patches
     Awards
     Neckerchiefs
     Camp Fees
     ....

So to prevent having 25+ subaccounts of each income account ( for each boy )
I made the scout accounts. A couple example transactions:

Income:Dues -> Assets:Checking:Scout Accounts:Boy 1

Assets:Checking:Scout Accounts:Boy 1 -> Expenses:Registration

This makes it nice so when running an Account Summary report I can click on
Boy 1 and see what's come in and gone out of the account. The problem is
that it's not correct. Dues should actually go into the Troop Account. If
I do that, then I can only put the Boy's name in the description field so
then I have to do a Find to know what all transactions the Boy has been
involved with. To make the Troop Account have the correct balance, it
should be that everything ( except certain fundraisers ) flows from the
Scout Accounts to the Troop Account and the Troop Account pays all the
expenses but if I keep the Scout Accounts then I have to add an additional
transfer from Boy 1's account to the Troop Account each and every time.
Thus, I'm either making a 2nd transaction entry or everything or I'll have a
hard time knowing how much each boy has in his account.

Ideally, I need to be able to do the following:
1. Tell a parent how much his/her boy has in his account ( this value should
include fundraiser amounts, and prepaid camp fees )
2. Easily determine if a boy has paid his dues ( due each month but
prepayment is allowed )
3. Easily be able to see what check #### from the checking account was for (
ideally where I don't have to look through all the transactions in the Troop
and Scout subaccounts searching for a check - like a top level view for the
checking account despite all transactions going into one of the subaccounts
)
4. Know how much the troop has ( knowing that some of the money in the
account is a liability for camp fees and other things )

What "design" would you suggest?

Thanks!
