Gnucash 2.4.10-1 Windows +MySQL GUI now hangs at various places... almost becoming UNUSABLE!

Depending on how you defined your mysql connection you ARE using the Windows
network stack even if no network packet actually enters or leaves your PC.

I didn't mean to imply any network issue outside your machine, but my choice
of words might have been confusing.

To my knowledge and experience, the "localhost" domain name on Windows is by
default tied to whatever ip address your network card has. As a consequence
some firewalls treat any access to localhost as an external network access.
Personally, I consider this a weird design choice, but I have run into this
several times.

So if you connect to mysql via the "localhost" domain name instead of the
127.0.0.1 ip address, this can have "network related" impact on your
experience.

I understood this from your earlier mails. Hence I suggested that the cause is
more likely in one of the (updated) support libraries GnuCash uses than in
GnuCash itself, because there are at first sight not relevant changes to the
GnuCash code that could result in such a behaviour. To an end user this
doesn't make a difference obviously; the (poor) experience remains the same.
For developers however, this makes things quite more difficult to track.

I'm afraid I don't have a ready answer to what could be the actual cause. I
only confirmed that the double gconf.exe instances are not it and hinted at an
area that could have something to do with it though it's often overlooked on
Windows.
