another "opening balances" question

I have spent the last 3 hours trying to figure this out. I have several 
accounts setup and would, now, like to enter the opening balances. I 
open the account to the register as directed and enter an amount. But, 
then I am required to enter a transaction, a source of those funds 
(double entry). But there is no source but itself. How do I get the 
opening balances entered within the double-entry requirement?
