Split entry in Credit account ends up as rebate in expense account

Have you entered the values in the correct colums? In the credit card
account the amount spent should be in the middle numeric column
(headed Charge in 2.4.10, not sure about 2.4.6) and the figure into
the expense account should be in the left hand column (headed
Payment). The Balance column in a credit card account should be
negative to show that you owe the credit card account money.
