Um, are you trying to run stuff from the download dmg? Depending on what version of OSX you're using, that may not work.
Drag both Gnucash.app and Update Finance Quote.app to /Applications (or anywhere else you like, but it's important that they're both in the same folder) and run Update Finance Quote again.

Finance::Quote isn't in the Update Finance Quote.app, either. That runs a cpan script which installs everything into /Library/Perl (which is why it has to run sudo).
