Hi Alain.

The backups and log files go in the same folder as the main data file. No 
choice about that, AFAIK.  

If you run several data files, I would suggest you create a folder for each 
set of accounts, eg:

c:\users\alain\documents\gnucash\Personal and
c:\users\alain\documents\gnucash\Business (or "Wife" or whatever, if relevant)

as to today's timestamp, I'm not sure.  I've just done a trial save of one of 
my files, and the autobackup was created with the timestamp of 20120917093506 
as expected.  Maybe it is a windows/linux difference?

Or do you mean the file in the Save confirmation box from your previous mail?  
That isn't the backup, that is your current data file, it will get a backup 
with a 4th timestamp of today.
