John, if you reply to a digest message, please strip off all text that's not relevant to 
your question.

There are no particular recommendations other than the general "make a backup 
before". Unless you start using some of the new features introduced in 2.6 (like 
credit notes), your data file remains compatible with both 2.4 and 2.6 versions of 
GnuCash.
