Help with General Ledger!!

Here is a pic of my general Ledger - the balance is always zero...
Is there another transaction ledger that I should be looking at?  Why
doesn't the General ledger show up by default when I open the file from
another PC?  And why does the default date range always revert back to the
past month or so?
