Larry--
I'm not a Windows user, so my help will be limited. However, to answer your direct question about where Gnucash stores things, take a look at:
http://www.gnucash.org/docs/v2.4/C/gnucash-guide/basics-migrate-settings.html
This page notes the locations of the various Gnucash support files.
Your experience, however (that you can save reports while Admin, but not otherwise), suggests some different problem. Keeping in mind my previous disavowal, one thing I recall causing preferences failure is a Windows username that gconf doesn't like. You might look into that. Also, did you install Gnucash under the Administrator account, or the user? Just fishing...
David

Subject: Where does gnucash store report ingo in Windows 7???
This is a simple question that must have been answered hundreds of times, but I couldn't find an answer anywhere. I'm trying to use gnucash on Windows 7, and I cannot get gnucash to remember things like my report formats and other preferences. However, if I run gnucash as an administrator, I can remember reports with no problems. Apparently, gnucash is trying to store my preferences somewhere that requires administrator privileges to access. I've searched everywhere, and cannot find any files like .gnucash in Linux.
So my question is simple. Where does gnucash store configuration data like preferences, and how can I make gnucash store this information in my directory so don't have to run gnucash as an administrator???
Thanks!!!
Larry
