WELL I am getting close,but no cigar yet.
I want to delete the entire account,not entries in Chart of Accounts.

Foe example I want to establish  a real account and one or two test accounts for "testing" as I work my way around this sytem.
Currently I can    delete the entire list using the reconmendtions suggested. Is there a method to delete a  particular account? I want to keep the real account.

......thanks ...... joe

Joe--

I'm glad that helped.

You can delete individual accounts in the Chart of Accounts window. Just select the account you want to delete and click the delete button. I believe right-clicking may get you the option as well. If the account has transactions in it, Gnucash will ask you whether to delete the transactions there, or which account to change them all to.

P.S. Try to remember to reply-all, so others can hear the dialogue and/or help out as well.

Hi David;
I did as you suggested,and all the file names(accounts) disappeared and that is what I asked for. But is there a way to selectively delete accounts?

.....thanks   ....joe

Hi Joe,

Welcome. Your problem is one that has cropped up a number of times over the years.

The entries in the file list are not actually the files--which you deleted in the operating system (presumably Windows). Those entries are just a list of recently-opened files--like the list of recent files you would see in Microsoft Word or Excel. The fact that you are getting "File Not Found" errors confirms that you have deleted the files.

If seeing the list disturbs you, take a look at the thread listed in http://lists.gnucash.org/pipermail/gnucash-user/2011-October/041767.html

Hi;
I am a new user of Gnucash and have a problem.

I set up some dummy accounts to feel my way around the system and now I want to delete them,but can not.
I deleted the files  thru the system(c directory),but the names(file not found)  still appear in the Gnucash file list.
What is the proper way to address this?
......thanks     ...... joe
