I think we are having some language problems as well as basic concepts 
problems (not directly related to using gnucash)

These "things" aren't shares of stock. You are making LOANS denominated 
in units that you are calling "shares" but which are really more like 
"bonds". No reason for you to expect the automated "stock" parts of 
gnucash to be handling these correctly but that isn't a gnucash issue as 
would be wrong even with old fashioned pen and ink on paper bookkeeping 
for you to treat them like "stocks".

If there is a section in the manual dealing with accounting for 
investment in bonds look at that.

There is too much I don't know about this arrangement of yours for me to 
give more specific advice (for example, are they "negotiable" -- meaning 
can be transferred to somebody else, and if so, on both sides or only 
one). And I'm about to go away to where the internet doesn't exist for a 
week so don't expect me to respond after the next day or so.
