General Ledger Issue: Unable to clear transaction once transacttion is "entered"

Perhaps the transactions that disappeared were backdated ? The General
Ledger only displays a limited history. So if you enter transactions
older than that period, they will "disappear". But the expected
behaviour of the general ledger is to display all transactions for a
recent period. (I'm not sure what this period is exactly, I don't use
the GL myself, but I thought it was only the last month or so).
