I personally use 'Account Codes' on a limited basis because it is easier
for me to remember and type a 5 digit number than to type 'as:cu:ba:c'
every time I want to enter a transaction in one of my bank accounts.
The colons require two fingers on the same hand at once, after all.

There are others that use 'Account Codes', and we have heard from a few
of them here from time to time.

The 'Account Code Renumber Wizard' should be fixed one way or another.
'Account Codes' should be fully sortable.

According to the Help manual 'Account Codes' are numbers in base 36.
Apparently punctuation is not allowed, because the hyphen character
breaks the sort.
I have created a bug report
<https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=712259> on this issue.
