Hi Elmer,
I overlooked that last question.  Did you accept all the defaults when
you installed GnuCash?  Did you let Windows elevate your privileges for
the install?  It sounds like the last file opened information is not
being saved as it should be.  Are you using a database file?  Are you
using any type of remote access? 

BTW, if you are using the ledger or journal for data entry, you might
consider using the account register(s) for the asset or bank account(s)
that you use most frequently.
