Back to the beginning. You said you made a copy of the file. You have
not yet told us how you made the copy. Depending on how you made the
copy, where you chose to put it, what NAME you chose to give it, etc.
you might have no reason to make assumptions about the file name
extension. These are NOT "magic", just part of the name, used by the
system to choose a default application when you click on it. No matter
what the (actual) type of a file it can be named anything, the extension
(if present) need not agree and the extension need not be present; all
that means is that you can't just click on it and have it open with the
correct application. You would have to explicitly choose the (correct)
application.
