undo close books?

I am learning GnuCash as I go, and not being an accountant, I get myself into
some problems up to now I have been able to get myself out of.

Right now, I have transactions from the middle of 2011 to present day. I
just discovered the Close Books feature (which my accountant was asking for)
and did so for the 2012 year. What this did was add everything from 2011 to
the close for that year as well. Also, since not really being too sure what
I was doing, I put everything into the generic "Equity" account when I see
that I could create a new Equity account for each year and put it there. I
have also added a lot of transactions and done other things with multiple
sessions of GnuCash (meaning multiple log files) since executing the close.

So I have two issues:
1. I need to be able to close off 2011 into its own year
2. I would like to move this all into Equity accounts per year.

What is the easiest way to do both of these? If there was a simple way to
"undo" the close, I would then be able to close off 2011 and then 2012 and
all would be great. Is there?

Thanks in advance for any help.
