Dates - Account report

I'm not sure how you are setting preferences for start and end dates on the Account Summary report, since it is a summary AS OF a particular date. That report doesn't have a start date, because it is meant to report what your balances are on that date, and by definition it will include all previous transactions. 

Perhaps you want to try the Income Statement report.
